Air Greenland has cancelled its Copenhagen–Nuuk transatlantic flights (GL781 / GL782) due to technical issues affecting the aircraft Tuukkaq.
Passengers were informed that they will be rebooked on alternative services, including a replacement flight operated by a Wamos Air A330-200 the following day. However, affected travelers were told they must arrange their own accommodation in Nuuk due to extremely limited hotel capacity.
The airline noted that:
The cancellation was caused by technical issues on the long-haul aircraft
Rebooked flights will operate the following day using a substitute aircraft
Passengers already in Nuuk or transiting through are responsible for lodging due to capacity constraints
Schedule disruptions may cascade into domestic connections within Greenland
Context / discussion point:
This highlights the operational fragility of long-haul routes into small Arctic hubs like Nuuk, where limited infrastructure (especially hotel capacity and aircraft redundancy) can quickly amplify disruptions from mechanical issues or weather.
