Flagstaff finally gets its flowers, underrated no more

Flagstaff making the underrated list honestly feels long overdue. It’s always been my favorite low-key escape from Phoenix, the summer temps alone are reason enough to bolt up I-17. But beyond the weather, there’s just something peaceful about walking under those tall pines with the San Francisco Peaks in the background. Plus, how many towns can say they discovered a planet?

Downtown has that perfect blend of laid-back college-town energy and mountain-town quirk. I always end up doing the Route 66 walk and grabbing something local to eat after. If you’ve only ever passed through Flag on your way to the Grand Canyon or Sedona, do yourself a favor and stay a night or two next time. Anyone have a favorite hike or brewery up there?
