I recently went on my first cruise with Virgin Voyages aboard the ship Resilient Lady on a Western Caribbean sailing from Miami, and I wanted to share a detailed review of the experience. I have previously sailed with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian, but this was by far the best cruise experience I have had, and I have already booked another voyage.
We booked a Central Sea Terrace cabin but were later upgraded to a large aft suite, which significantly enhanced the experience. The suite had a large balcony, excellent views, a comfortable bed, and a spacious bathroom. The outdoor space became a highlight, especially for relaxing and watching the wake.
Departure from Miami was smooth overall, although disembarkation and Uber pickup afterward were quite chaotic and delayed. The port itself was otherwise convenient and enjoyable.
Food onboard was a standout feature. All main restaurants were excellent, including The Wake, Pink Agave, Razzle Dazzle, Extra Virgin, and Gunbae. The Galley food hall also offered consistently high-quality options compared to traditional cruise buffets. Desserts, in particular, felt fresh and well-made. The overall dining experience was a major highlight of the cruise.
Entertainment exceeded expectations, with multiple shows and events standing out. Performances such as Miss Behave, Lola’s Library, Persephone, and Scarlet Night were highly engaging and well produced. The onboard atmosphere, including themed nights and karaoke rooms, created a lively and interactive environment.
Onboard spaces like Richard’s Rooftop, The Dock, the Social Club, and various bars were enjoyable and well designed. The wristband system for payments made transactions simple and convenient compared to traditional cruise card systems.
Service from staff was consistently strong, with crew members appearing engaged and attentive throughout the ship. Embarkation and disembarkation were also efficient and well organized.
Ports visited included Jamaica and Grand Cayman, where independent exploration of beaches and local areas was preferred over formal excursions.
Some areas for improvement included a small main pool that became crowded, limitations in the app functionality for room service, and a somewhat complicated restaurant reservation system.
Overall, the cruise experience was rated highly and described as premium, adult-focused, and well worth the cost due to the quality of food, entertainment, and included amenities.
