I was on a full flight in boarding group 6. As usual, there was an option for free gate check and most people were trying to manage carry-ons however they could.
When I got to my row near the back, I noticed something odd. The overhead bin above my seat was already shut. I placed my one carry-on across the aisle where there was space and put my backpack under the seat in front of me.
While waiting for the rest of my group (who were in boarding group 8), I heard a passenger in front of me tell their friends to open the overhead bin above their row because “it’s empty, I closed it for you.”
That surprised me because I have never seen someone close an overhead bin to basically reserve it for later boarding passengers.
Is this becoming a normal thing now or just an isolated incident? It definitely felt unusual to me.
