I’ll be flying Turkish Airlines for the first time next week and had a couple of questions before my trip.
We’re flying a long-haul route from the US to Turkey (about 12 hours) and then connecting onward to Italy.
1. Seat assignment / sitting together
I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth paying extra to select seats. Right now, the flight looks fairly empty, but I’m unsure how seat assignments usually work with Turkish Airlines economy.
Do they typically seat passengers together automatically if they’re on the same booking?
Or is there a real chance of being split unless seats are selected in advance?
If we don’t pre-select seats, are they assigned automatically at check-in?
Would checking in as early as possible improve the chances of sitting together?
We’re just trying to balance cost vs comfort for a long flight.
2. Checked baggage on connecting flights
My second concern is about checked luggage on an international connection.
How reliable is baggage handling with Turkish Airlines on connecting itineraries?
Is lost or delayed baggage a common issue, or generally well-managed when bags are checked through to the final destination?
Any advice or personal experience would be really appreciated.
