My dad and I are doing our first cruise this summer on the Emerald Princess, roundtrip from Vancouver. I wanted to take him because he’s getting older and has always wanted to do an Alaska cruise.
We booked an interior cabin and the cruise fare was about $1900 CAD for both of us. We’re trying to keep the rest of the trip fairly budget friendly.
Our ports are Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan. Right now the main excursions we’re considering are the White Pass scenic railway and a whale watching tour.
We didn’t choose the Plus or Premier packages since neither of us drinks much and Wi-Fi isn’t really important for this trip.
A few questions for people who’ve done this cruise:
Are there any must-do excursions in these ports?
Is the Plus package worth it if you don’t really drink?
How does onboard credit actually work?
Are the buffet and main dining room basically free whenever you want on the base fare?
Also open to any general tips for getting the most out of an Alaska cruise without spending a ton.
