I’m planning a trip to Eastern Europe this fall and booking through American Airlines in order to earn miles and take advantage of Platinum Pro status.
On the outbound from JFK to Bucharest, the only reasonable routing options appear to be via British Airways through London Heathrow, which I’ve flown before.
On the return, I also see British Airways options, but there’s an alternative routing via Finnair connecting through Helsinki, which looks more efficient in terms of total travel time and layover experience.
I’m trying to decide between the two connection points and carriers. Specifically, I’m looking for insights on:
Service quality differences between Finnair and British Airways on long-haul and short-haul segments
Efficiency and airport experience at Helsinki vs Heathrow
Connection reliability and minimum connection stress
Overall comfort and operational consistency
Any practical experiences or recommendations would be appreciated, especially from people who have flown both routings recently.
