Filed for EU261 compensation after my Finnair flight from Seattle to Europe arrived 7 hours late due to a missed connection in Helsinki. Ticket was booked on Finnair’s site using miles (Chase → Avios → Finnair Plus).
After 3 months, Finnair replied saying EU261 doesn’t apply because I “traveled free of charge.” But the regulation literally says it does apply to frequent flyer bookings open to the public.
Feels like they’re twisting the rule. Anyone else had EU261 claims denied on award tickets and successfully appealed?
