I’ve been in Amex’s long term financial relief program on my Gold card for about a year after an income hit. Things are better now and I’m actively clearing debt.
They auto deduct a payment each month, the balance keeps going down, and my available spending has been slowly increasing. I now have enough cash to pay the full balance.
Before I do that, I’m trying to understand what happens next. Do they usually reinstate the account normally, or is it more likely they close it once the balance is paid? And if it stays open, am I stuck with some kind of monthly spending cap?
If paying it off just gets the account closed anyway, I’d probably put the money toward other debt and keep the low payment for now.
Looking for real world experiences from anyone who’s gone through this.
