Failed Punta Cana vacation thanks to AA crew chaos at PHL

Snowstorm in Philly canceled our original AA flight to Punta Cana. Rebooked for the next morning, which felt hopeful for about five minutes.

Got to the airport early only to find our concourse check-in closed. Had to go outside, in the snow, to another terminal just to get boarding passes and check a bag. That flight was delayed, then canceled. Rebooked again onto another flight that was also missing crew.

Spent the entire day watching departure times slide every 30 minutes. Gate agents had no info. Crews kept timing out. At one point the gate applauded when a flight attendant finally showed up.

We boarded, sat on the tarmac, then had to come back because the pilot would time out after de-icing. Then it was “not canceled,” just delayed again while they searched for yet another crew.

After 12+ hours in the airport, we canceled the trip ourselves in the app. Minutes later, AA officially canceled it anyway.

Never made it to Punta Cana. Went home cold, exhausted, and very aware that flight crews at AA seem to be more of a suggestion than a guarantee.
