Eye opening experience with local sentiment in Mexico City that changed how I travel.

Just read about anti-tourist protests and it got me thinking about my recent experience in Roma Norte, Mexico City. I was there for a friend's wedding last month, and during the rehearsal dinner at this amazing local restaurant, we suddenly heard this commotion outside. At first, I thought it was just typical city noise, but it turned out to be local residents expressing their frustration with the growing tourist presence in their neighborhood. It really made me stop and think about my role as a visitor in their community.

What struck me most was how the neighborhood had clearly changed over the years. Talking with our local server that evening, he shared stories about how Roma Norte used to be primarily residential before becoming a tourist hotspot. I ended up spending the rest of my trip being more mindful - choosing local family-run businesses, learning basic Spanish phrases, and really trying to understand the community perspective. This anti-tourist protests update reminds me of similar changes I've seen elsewhere, and it's made me realize how important it is to travel more consciously and respectfully.
