Extra security at MAD for US flights, how early to be there?

When we arrived in Madrid I heard an announcement saying those flying to the US need to be at the gate 2 hours prior to departure for extra security check purposes. So do we need to be at the airport 4 hrs prior to departure and not 3? Does this also mean we should go straight to the gate after regular security and skip the lounge? I’ve researched this in other subreddits and read conflicting reports. So I thought I’d ask here and see what your experience has been at MAD. We are on the 10 am flight to MIA if that makes a difference.
