Hi everyone, probably a beginner question since I do not fly often.
I recently flew from BNE to Singapore and had a baggage allowance of 30kg. When I placed my checked bag on the scale at bag drop, it came in at 31.2kg.
I was fully expecting to be asked to remove items or pay an excess baggage fee, but surprisingly the bag was accepted without any issue. They added a heavy tag and checked it through normally.
Is there some kind of unofficial tolerance threshold where being slightly over is often ignored? Or does it mostly depend on the airport staff, how busy things are, or other factors?
Not sure if checking in around three hours early had anything to do with it either.
Curious to hear others' experiences.
