I just started doing this super simple coin trick before trips and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for peace of mind. You freeze a cup of water, place a coin on top, and leave it in the freezer while you’re away. If the coin’s still on top when you return, all is well. But if it’s sunk into the ice? That means your freezer likely defrosted at some point. It won’t tell you how long, but at least you know whether to toss the frozen stuff or not.
I had a freezer incident in the past and threw everything out just in case, which felt awful and expensive. Now I won’t go on vacation without doing this. Anyone else use this or got better vacation hacks for food safety?
