I had a frustrating experience with Eurowings (Lufthansa Group) while trying to check in online.
The app and website initially wouldn’t let me continue without selecting and paying for a seat, and it looked like there was no option for a free random seat assignment.
I called their support number for help, and the agent told me that I must pay for a seat to check in and that some flights do not include free seat assignment.
However, this contradicts their own fare rules, which state that a free random seat is always provided if you do not choose a paid seat.
After hanging up and trying again a few minutes later, the app suddenly worked and assigned me a seat for free.
It seems like the support information was incorrect or misleading, so be careful if you’re told the same thing.
