My partner previously volunteered to give up a seat on an overbooked Emirates flight about a year ago and received a travel voucher in return.
She later used that voucher to book a flight from Dubai to Manchester scheduled for May. The booking was made well before any current conflict or travel disruption concerns.
However, we have now discovered that Emirates has apparently cancelled the booking and also rescinded the voucher. We only found out when trying to add luggage to the reservation.
The explanation given was related to the “war situation”.
We have also heard a rumour that similar cancellations may have affected other voucher bookings.
Questions:
Has anyone else experienced Emirates cancelling voucher-based bookings like this?
Is it common for airlines to invalidate vouchers or bookings due to geopolitical or security changes after confirmation?
What options are available in a situation like this for compensation or reinstatement?
Any insight or similar experiences would be appreciated.
