From what others have said, if Emirates officially cancels your flight, you’re generally entitled to a refund for that segment. It’s not always “automatic” in the sense that money instantly appears back on your card. You usually still have to submit a request or call, especially if you only want to cancel one leg and keep the return.
That’s the tricky part. If you use the online refund form, it can cancel the whole itinerary. Calling seems to be the better move if you’re trying to protect the return flight.
If it were me, I’d wait until the flight is actually cancelled before touching anything. Once you cancel voluntarily, the rules can change fast.
