Saw a pretty stressful situation someone shared after their Emirates flight BKK → DXB → MAD on March 9 got canceled.
At the airport they were offered two options:
• Fly in 2 days in Business Class but pay about €5,000 fare difference
• Fly in 4 days on another airline but pay a €350 fee
The passenger says staff refused to do a free involuntary rerouting and wouldn’t waive the fees.
Now they’re trying to figure out what rules apply in this situation. Questions they’re asking:
Are airlines required to reroute you without charging extra when a flight is canceled?
Is there a specific rule or clause they can quote to the duty manager?
If they’re forced to wait several days, does the airline have to cover hotel and meals?
Curious if anyone here has dealt with something similar with Emirates during disruptions.
