Just read a deep dive into Emirates' ambitious Boeing 777X plans, and wow, the scale is massive. With over 200 aircraft on order, this jet is set to become the backbone of Emirates' future, replacing both aging 777s and even some A380s by the 2040s. But here’s the kicker: certification delays have pushed delivery way beyond the original 2020 goal. Emirates now expects the first 777X no earlier than 2027, maybe even 2028. That’s a long wait for an airline that’s built much of its long-haul strategy around this aircraft.
In the meantime, they’ve ordered 65 Airbus A350-900s and launched a $4B retrofit program just to keep things running. The 777X still looks like a perfect fit huge range, efficient GE9X engines, and room for 400+ passengers.
