Just wanted to share what happened on my Mumbai–Cairo trip. I had an Egypt e-visa, flew EgyptAir outbound and Flynas on the way back. Heard from other travelers that EgyptAir might block boarding if your return isn’t on the same airline, so I checked.
Called EgyptAir they said they wouldn’t let me board and claimed it’s an immigration rule, but wouldn’t put anything in writing. Called the Egypt embassy they said no such rule exists and emailed me. EgyptAir still insisted they have the final say on boarding.
I ended up filing a complaint with DGCA. At check-in they made me wait, called managers, then finally gave me a boarding pass without comment. My friend flew the next day and they held him for 1.5 hours over the same issue. Another traveler was even forced to buy a return ticket on the same airline.
Posting this so others know: if you don’t have a US/UK/Schengen visa and you’re flying a Middle East carrier, make sure your return ticket situation won’t cause issues.
