Anyone else feel that weird tremor Saturday night? Turned out it was a 3.0 magnitude earthquake centered in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. It hit around 10:18 p.m. and was felt from NYC to parts of Connecticut. No serious damage reported, but social media was full of Did you feel that? posts. For East Coasters like me, it was unexpected and eerie. Scientists say our colder, denser rocks actually make tremors travel farther than on the West Coast.
This isn’t super rare either quakes happen around here every couple of years, though usually on the small side. Anyone remember the 4.8 magnitude one in April 2024? It had flights and trains all messed up. Curious if others felt it and how it compares to the bigger quakes elsewhere?
