We are traveling from Canada to Italy via Frankfurt to board an MSC cruise in Bari. Both my wife and I hold dual citizenship (Canadian and Italian passports).
The cruise booking was made using our Canadian passports, so my wife’s reservation is under her married name, which matches her Canadian passport. However, her Italian passport is still under her maiden name.
Our current plan is to potentially use our Italian passports when entering Germany (Frankfurt) in order to possibly avoid delays with the EU Entry Exit System process, especially given a tight connection onward to Italy. If the line is long, we may instead continue using Canadian passports for consistency.
The concern is what happens at cruise boarding in Bari if we enter the Schengen area on one passport but present a different passport for check in. Specifically, whether MSC requires the same passport used for entry into Europe, or whether it is sufficient that the passport matches the booking name and travel documents.
Has anyone dealt with a similar dual passport situation when cruising from Italy, particularly with name differences between passports?
