I’m cruising on a Sunday but I have a concert Saturday night I absolutely can’t miss. Port is Galveston, about 7.5 hours away.
Plan right now is to leave around 10pm after the concert, drive about halfway, stop around 2am for a few hours at a hotel, then finish the last 4 hours in the morning. Traveling with my 20-year-old son in a 2024 Subaru Outback.
I know the standard advice is always “arrive the day before,” and I’ve definitely read the horror stories about breakdowns, traffic, etc. So now I’m second guessing. Would it actually be smarter to just power through and drive straight overnight?
For what it’s worth, I’m a night owl, so the late driving doesn’t worry me too much.
Has anyone here driven in the day of their cruise from that far out? Did it work out fine or would you never risk it again?
