Driving Chicago–Myrtle Beach saved us $1,200 over flights

Scrapped the flights for spring break after seeing United at $329 a head. With 4 kids, that’s $1,240 saved just by driving the minivan. Gas for the 1,600 miles comes to about $165, and I even found a cheap one-way rental deal if we don’t want to use our own car.

Breaking up the drive ended up cheaper too grabbing a halfway hotel beat forcing a 12-hour marathon and buying extra meals on the road. Way easier on the kids too. Still debating if I should burn Hilton points for the stop or save them for summer.
