Sitting on the plane out of SEA right now, Platinum, had used an upgrade cert for first when I booked last week. Checked in right at T-24. Long travel week nine legs in eight days so I was counting on the meal and a quiet seat tonight.
Boarding gets delayed a bit, a few people get called up, nothing unusual. When I go to board, the scanner suddenly says I’m not checked in. Showed them my boarding pass, but they still send me to the counter. Agent calls it “a glitch,” hands me a paper ticket, and sends me back in line.
I look at the ticket seat 11F. I had 2F. No one said a word.
Go back to the desk and now they tell me the plane was swapped and they “had to remove the upgrades.” First I’ve heard of it. No notification, no heads-up while waiting at the gate, nothing. If I’d known, I would’ve grabbed dinner instead of expecting the first-class meal. Now I’m landing close to 1am, then a 6am start tomorrow, and this whole week has already been delay after delay and even a cancellation.
I get that downgrades happen, but the way this was handled was honestly rough. Anyone else run into this with Alaska? Anything worth doing after the fact?
