On March 24, I traveled on a single PNR itinerary from Berlin to Zurich to Mumbai to Coimbatore, booked across Swiss (Lufthansa Group) and Air India.
For the first leg at Berlin, Swiss Airlines charged me €210 for an extra 23kg baggage fee. The staff confirmed this payment covered my entire journey through to Coimbatore. However, since Air India’s system was not yet active in Berlin, the Swiss agent could only issue documentation covering the BER–BOM segment and manually noted the full journey coverage on the receipt, advising me to show it to Air India staff in Mumbai.
When I reached Mumbai for the domestic Air India segment, the airline refused to recognize the Swiss-issued payment documentation and required me to pay an additional ₹15,435 to board the final flight.
I raised a complaint through Air India, but they insisted the Swiss document only covered the international leg and justified the domestic charge. Swiss redirected me to Lufthansa Group support, but I have not received a response. From my understanding, IATA Resolution 302 should mean the baggage policy of the most significant carrier applies to the entire journey under a single PNR, but Air India appears to be treating it separately, resulting in double charges.
I’m now trying to understand whether this is correct or if I’ve been wrongly charged and what options I have for resolving this dispute.
