Don’t Complain, The Squares in The Villages Are Public and Always Have Been

Just read Linda Sexton’s letter from August 5, 2025 and she nails it. Town squares, shops, roads: all public and open to everyone. The gates are mostly symbolic, and complaining that outsiders use your square isn’t going to change that.

If you live in Water Oak or any Village, remember it’s not private property. Streets are public, businesses pay rent, and the entertainment is purposely designed to draw guests. The locals pay for amenities like pools and golf, but the squares? That’s public space meant to bring life and support local businesses. So instead of getting upset, maybe embrace that diversity, it keeps the town vibrant and businesses buzzing.

Has anyone experienced pushback or met foreigners who love the vibe of the squares too? How have you navigated that local vs visitor tension in practice?
