I work as a breakfast attendant at a mid sized Marriott. Over time they’ve simplified the menu more and more, and the quality has definitely gone downhill. A lot of stuff is now prepackaged and microwaved. Several items guests actually liked were removed, and now it’s basically the same limited spread every other day.
The explanation we’re given is that attendants and kitchen staff shouldn’t be “stuck in the kitchen” anymore. We’re supposed to be out on the floor engaging guests more. Basically chatting people up while they eat.
Here’s the thing. Before the menu changes, I never once got complaints about not being friendly enough or not talking to guests. Since the menu changes, I get regular complaints about food quality. And honestly, I don’t blame them.
So I’m genuinely curious from a guest perspective. Would you rather have:
Better quality breakfast with less staff interaction
or
Mediocre food with an attendant checking in to chat about the weather?
Not trying to rant, just wondering what people actually prefer.
