I have two Hawaiian/Alaska upgrade certificates that I need to use before they expire.
For my outbound flight, I was able to apply one of the certificates immediately after booking without any issues. However, for my return flight, the website shows that First Class upgrades are currently unavailable. I still booked that flight because the rest of my family is traveling on it.
I already submitted the upgrade request through the Hawaiian Airlines upgrade certificate form, which says requests will be processed closer to the departure date.
My question is whether there's still a realistic chance that additional U class upgrade inventory will become available before the flight, or if it's unlikely once all U class seats have been taken.
TL;DR: Do airlines ever release more U class upgrade availability closer to departure, or would I be better off using my remaining certificate on a different flight instead?
