I recently had a debate with friends after a trip where we had a 5-hour layover in Amsterdam on the way to Athens.
After the trip, one friend said he had “visited” Netherlands, referring only to that layover. I disagreed and said that a layover should not count as visiting a country.
My view is that to say you have visited a country, you should at least leave the airport and ideally spend at least one night there. Surprisingly, a couple of others agreed with him.
Curious where others stand on this. Do you count a layover as visiting a country, or do you have your own criteria?
