Do airlines actually know if you have dual citizenship?

This is one of those things that feels like a loophole… but probably isn’t.

From what I understand, airlines mainly see whatever passport you present plus visa/ETA requirements tied to that passport. They’re checking if you’re allowed to enter your destination, not your full citizenship history.

But the catch is things like API (Advance Passenger Information). Governments can cross-check passenger data, so in some cases they might already know or flag something on their end.

That’s probably how situations like that Copenhagen case happen.

So yeah, it might seem like “just use the other passport,” but there’s definitely some backend systems that can complicate things.

Feels like one of those things that works… until it suddenly doesn’t.
