I recently looked into youth ticket pricing with Scandinavian Airlines and found the actual savings to be minimal. The base fare is only about 1 to 2 percent cheaper, roughly €5 to €10 less than a standard ticket.
However, the additional costs seem to cancel out that small discount. For example, seat selection at check in can cost around €25 per flight on a youth ticket, while standard tickets may include this for free.
This makes the overall value of the youth fare questionable, since it can end up costing the same or even more than a regular ticket.
It feels like a missed opportunity, especially since younger travelers often compare options across multiple airlines.
Has anyone else noticed this or found situations where youth fares actually provide better value?
