I am still onboard, so this is just my personal perspective, and I understand others may have a very different experience with Virgin Voyages.
For context, I am a woman in my late 30s, gluten free, not into partying, and I chose an Alaska sailing expecting a calmer experience. Some parts of the trip have been good:
The balcony cabin with a hammock worked very well for Alaska views, and I would consider getting one for home
The excursions were enjoyable overall, and I saw whales, bald eagles, and even a few bears
The staff has generally been friendly and positive
However, several issues have stood out:
Port experience in Juneau: The logistics felt disorganized. Excursion details changed at short notice, and returning to the ship involved long queues with little coordination
Crowding onboard: The ship feels consistently overcrowded during the day. It is difficult to find seating in dining areas and public spaces, especially by late morning. We often ended up taking food back to the cabin
Entertainment quality: Some onboard talks and activities felt unstructured and underprepared. A few sessions I attended were difficult to follow or not engaging, and I eventually stopped attending certain events due to noise or poor setup
Gluten free dining: This has been the biggest disappointment. Despite expectations set by marketing, options felt limited and repetitive. Some advertised gluten free items were not available when requested, and alternatives were often very basic. Overall variety has been poor across the sailing
At this point, I am wondering whether this is typical for Virgin Voyages or specific to this sailing. I expected more, but the experience has not matched those expectations for me personally
