Flew standby recently and took whatever seat I could just to get home and see my family. Ended up in the back of the plane out of MIA and figured it wouldn’t be that bad.
I was very wrong.
Before we even parked, people in the back jumped up and rushed forward. That set off a chain reaction where half the plane stood up and crammed the aisle. People were pushing, no one could get bags down, and someone in my row literally ended up halfway on my lap trying to squeeze into the aisle.
We arrived early, so it’s not like connections were about to be missed. It still turned into total chaos and actually took longer to deplane because no one had space to move without hitting others with luggage.
I’ve noticed this more and more lately, especially on flights into terminal destinations where there’s no reason to rush. Being in the back of the plane feels like the ninth circle of hell now.
Is this just a US thing or is deplaning like this everywhere now?
