I was scheduled to fly from Edinburgh to Tokyo (Narita) via Amsterdam on 20 March with KLM.
On the day of travel, I was informed at the airport that my first flight from Edinburgh to Amsterdam was delayed by over three hours, which meant I would miss my connection. As a result, I was rebooked and arrived in Tokyo about 24 hours later than planned.
I submitted a compensation claim, but it was rejected on the basis that the delay was caused by weather.
However, the information I received at the time indicated that the delay was due to weather affecting the incoming aircraft into Edinburgh, and I’m trying to understand whether that justification is accurate.
I’m now trying to figure out how to verify historical weather or flight disruption data to confirm whether conditions at Edinburgh or Amsterdam were actually severe enough to cause this delay, and whether a relatively small inbound delay could reasonably result in a much longer departure delay.
