This happened last night and I’m still pretty angry and confused.
I had a round trip ticket booked with Turkish Airlines: CPH to IST to BKK, and return BKK to IST to CPH. The Bangkok to Istanbul leg was operated by Thai Airways.
At the Thai Airways check in counter in Bangkok, they told me my Turkish Airlines ticket was not valid in their system and they could not check me in. Online check in didn’t work either, just a “contact staff” error everywhere. Thai staff said this was on Turkish and there was nothing they could do.
I spent a long time calling Turkish Airlines support. No one could fix it. They also refused to rebook me or refund the ticket at that point. End result: I was stranded in Bangkok for 24 hours and had to buy a brand new ticket out of pocket just to get home.
I’ve submitted a refund claim now, but I’m trying to figure out what to expect and how hard I need to push.
Has anyone else had a “ticket not valid in system” situation on a codeshare like this?
Did you actually get a refund from Turkish?
Any luck getting hotel or meal costs back?
Any escalation tips that worked?
This feels like a straight up airline system failure and I’m really hoping I don’t get stonewalled.
