Looking for advice because this one still doesn’t sit right.
We were flying Doha to Madrid on Qatar. Had valid boarding passes and arrived at the gate while boarding was still happening. When our passes were scanned it came up as “boarding denied.”
Qatar told us we had been preemptively offloaded because our inbound flight arrived late, even though we physically made it to the gate on time. Meanwhile other passengers kept boarding right in front of us. We ended up stuck in Doha for about 8 hours.
There was basically no help. We were bounced between desks, no food or water provided, no lounge or hotel access. At one point we were even told there was a meal allowance coded into the boarding pass, which turned out to be completely false.
Now I’m trying to figure out what’s actually claimable here. From what I can tell, EU261 doesn’t apply since it departed outside the EU on a non-EU airline, even though the destination was Madrid.
Has anyone had luck getting compensation from Qatar in a situation like this? Is Montreal Convention the right angle, or is this just a long complaint process with low odds?
