Had a JFK to Paris flight with JetBlue and ran into a really strange situation at the gate. Holding a Hong Kong SAR passport, which normally doesn’t require a Schengen visa for France.
Gate agents refused boarding saying a Schengen visa and ETIAS registration were required. ETIAS isn’t even active yet until late 2026, and official consulate info clearly says Hong Kong passport holders are visa-free for Schengen.
Tried explaining this and they initially rebooked the flight, but a few hours later they cancelled that too saying they “received notice from authorities” that a visa was needed.
Even called CDG airport directly and they confirmed no visa is required.
Now trying to figure out what the options are for refund or reimbursement since this looks like a mistake by the airline.
