I frequently travel internationally and have noticed ongoing issues when booking flights through Delta Air Lines.
When searching for routes, Delta often does not display the full range of SkyTeam partner options, even when those itineraries are cheaper, faster, or more practical. Instead, the search results tend to prioritize Delta-operated flights, which in many cases are less convenient.
On several occasions, I’ve found that booking the same route through other SkyTeam partners results in better itineraries, single-ticket bookings with protected connections and automatic baggage transfers—whereas Delta’s offerings sometimes involve self-transfers, longer layovers, or additional steps like re-checking baggage and passing through security again.
From a customer perspective, this feels inconsistent with the purpose of an airline alliance like SkyTeam, which is supposed to provide seamless interoperability across partner airlines.
I’m trying to understand:
Why Delta’s search results don’t consistently include full partner itineraries
Whether this is due to commercial strategy, technical limitations, or fare agreement structures
If there’s a way to reliably access the same partner itineraries when booking directly through Delta
Would appreciate any insights from those familiar with airline booking systems or alliance behavior.
