I was trying to fix a name issue on my upcoming Delta flight this Friday. I contacted Delta support through the app and was told I needed to call customer service, and they provided me with a phone number.
I called the number, and the person on the line asked for my credit card details and said there would be a $200 fee plus other charges for changing the ticket. While going through the process, they also asked for my SkyMiles password. In the moment, I gave it, but quickly realized something was wrong because Delta should not need that.
I checked my Delta account and saw that the person was actively using it while pretending to be me and requesting the same change I had asked about earlier. I immediately realized it was a scam, hung up, changed my password, and locked my credit card. The caller tried to contact me again afterward.
Since then, I’ve reported the issue to Delta and secured everything I can. The problem now is that the card used for the booking is the same one for flights, hotels, and other travel expenses, and I’ve had to lock it. I’m worried about upcoming hotel bookings since the trip is very close and I may not have time to replace the card.
For reference, the number I was given was 1-800-221-2121, which turned out to be fraudulent. Delta’s official number is 1-800-221-1212.
I’m looking for advice on what to do next to avoid issues during my trip.
