Delta One on LAX to Sydney was a mess. Paid upgrade and everything broke.

We paid cash to upgrade to Delta One on the LAX to SYD leg as a Christmas treat. Not points, not GUCs. Full price. Thought it would be a nice splurge.


At the gate in LAX they called our 12 year old daughter up and told us her D1 seat wouldn’t recline. Only option was to move her to Premium Select. We weren’t happy, but there wasn’t much choice. My partner ended up swapping seats with her so our daughter could at least be with us and still get the D1 service.


Once onboard, it somehow got worse. Her IFE had no sound. My own seat charger didn’t work. Dinner comes and no port wine. Then later no herbal mocktail either. Just one thing after another on a 14.5 hour flight.


I’m not trying to sound entitled, but this was a paid Delta One seat on a long haul flagship route. These feel like basic things that should be checked. Support chat later offered 12,000 SkyMiles for all of it, which honestly felt like a joke.


Has anyone else had a D1 flight fall apart this badly? We’re definitely calling once we reach our final destination.
