My family flies from Minneapolis (MSP) to Charleston a few times a year, usually in June. I just booked nonstop tickets for about $500 per person, which already felt a bit high but still manageable.
I checked again recently and the same flights are now showing around $1400 per person for a roughly 2.5 hour flight.
This feels like a massive increase over a very short time.
My concerns:
Prices seem to fluctuate extremely aggressively even on a short domestic route
It feels like demand or pricing algorithms are pushing fares far beyond what used to be normal
I am wondering if this is becoming standard across US domestic travel or just a temporary spike for this route/time period
I know airline pricing is dynamic, but this level of increase is surprising and honestly a bit worrying.
