Checked in at SDF and was literally standing at the bag drop when the agent asked if I’d seen a cancellation notice. As she said it, my app flipped from on time to canceled. No warning.
At the counter I was told there was nothing available anywhere, even after listing multiple reasonable airports within driving distance. I called Delta myself and got rebooked on SDF to LGA to CHO, which I was told supposedly did not exist.
Because of the airport change and an 80 mile drive home, I booked a rental through Delta Cars from CHO to get home that night. I even called to confirm since delays were stacking up. Was told not to worry, they had my flight number and would stay open up to two hours after scheduled arrival.
After sitting on the LGA tarmac for nearly an hour due to crew timing out, we finally landed in CHO at 1:30am. Every rental counter was closed. Locked. Empty.
Called Delta Cars again and the only solution offered was to rebook with any open rental counter. At CHO. At 1:30am. There were none. I was effectively stranded.
Ended up paying an Uber fare more than double the rental cost just to get home. Being stranded for free is not a solution.
Delta Cars and Delta Stays are a hard no for me going forward. If you are going to guarantee something, you need to actually deliver it.
