Delta Flight Diverts After Severe Turbulence Sends 25 to Hospital

I’ve hit bumpy air before, but what happened on Delta Flight 56 from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam sounds intense. The A330neo was cruising at 37,000 feet when it hit significant turbulence over the U.S., forcing a diversion to Minneapolis. According to Flightradar24, the plane briefly dropped over 2,000 feet during the event. Twenty-five passengers were hospitalized after landing, which is no small deal.

I’ve flown through rough patches but nothing that caused a medical emergency or flight diversion. Curious to hear from others have you ever experienced turbulence severe enough to cause damage or injury onboard? This one’s got me double-checking my seatbelt more than ever.
