Delta canceled my ticket at check-in with zero notice

Looking for advice because I still can’t believe this happened.

I booked a flight from Montreal to Morocco on Friday. Purchased through Delta, operated by Air France, flying next Tuesday. I got a confirmation, ticket number, check-in emails, everything. My credit card was charged and I have proof from my bank. I never canceled anything and never asked for a refund.

I show up at the airport to check a bag and I’m told my reservation is canceled.

First they say I canceled it and requested a refund. Not true.

Then they say my credit card didn’t go through. I show them the charge.

Then they say the system canceled it and I’ll be reimbursed.

I was never emailed about a payment issue. Never told the ticket was canceled. I was still getting reminder and check-in emails. I only found out standing at the counter. There was another flight later that day and they didn’t offer to rebook me. Just told me to buy a new ticket myself.

Afterward it turned into finger pointing. Air France says it’s Delta’s problem. Delta airport staff told me to call. Phone support gave the same vague answers and asked if I had provided my card to fix it, which made no sense since they already said the ticket was canceled.

Delta later emailed saying the system flagged the booking for credit card verification, then refunded it due to a system issue before I could verify anything. They offered $75 compensation, which honestly feels insulting given the situation.

I’m trying to understand what my rights are here, especially since this was an international flight departing Canada. Is it normal for an airline to cancel a confirmed, ticketed reservation with no notice and no rebooking?

If anyone’s been through something similar or knows what I should push for next, I’d really appreciate it.
