Delta Air Lines has partnered with Green Taxi Aerospace through its “Sustainable Skies Lab” to develop an electric aircraft-taxiing system that allows jets to move on the ground without using their main engines. The technology—initially targeted at regional aircraft—uses an electric motor to power taxiing, which can significantly reduce fuel burn, emissions, engine and brake wear, and taxi time. Early estimates suggest savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars per aircraft annually, underscoring the airline’s commitment to operational sustainability while it pursues its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
