Hey,
I’m currently traveling through Southeast Asia and planning to fly from Bangkok to Cambodia on April 17. Unfortunately, my passport was accidentally exposed to mosquito repellent in my bag, which caused stains across all pages. While the personal information page and existing entry stamps are still readable, the overall condition of the passport is visibly damaged.
I tested the passport’s chip using an app, and it appears to still function properly. However, I’m concerned that the stains and condition of the passport may cause issues when entering countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, China, and even when re-entering Thailand.
I’ve seen conflicting advice online, some travelers report no issues traveling with damaged passports, while others say that immigration authorities in Southeast Asia can be strict about passport condition.
Because of this, I tried to book an appointment with the Portuguese embassy in Bangkok to renew my passport, but I haven’t received a response. I’m currently on Koh Tao and won’t be able to reach Bangkok until April 13, which limits my options.
I’m feeling stressed and unsure about the best course of action and would appreciate advice on what to do in this situation.
