BH Group and Kolter Group are planning to redevelop the site at 6985 Collins Avenue, currently home to the Crystal Beach Suites and the historic Normandy Plaza Hotel. If approved, these two icons could be replaced with a 17-story luxury condo featuring just 37 large units, ground-floor retail, and a concealed parking deck. They’re even trying to preserve part of the Normandy Plaza façade to keep a link to the past.
I’ve walked by those hotels countless times and always appreciated their old-school Miami charm. Sure, a sleek new tower sounds amazing, but is it worth losing these mid-century and Art Deco gems.
