A cruise passenger suggests a system designed to reduce “chair hogging” around pool areas on cruise ships.
The idea involves issuing small clip-on devices linked to a guest’s cruise card. When a guest leaves their pool chair, they would scan their card to activate a timer (around 25 minutes). During this period, the device would indicate the chair is still “in use.”
If the guest does not return and rescan within the time limit, the device would switch status, signaling that the chair is available again and can be reassigned by staff.
The proposal also suggests integrating stricter controls such as one-time scans per user and possibly identity verification to prevent misuse.
The goal of the idea is to enforce fair usage of pool chairs and prevent long-term reservation of seats without occupancy.
