I recently saw a UPS MD-11 taxiing at Toronto Pearson Airport with covers on both the engines and the cockpit windows.
From what I understand, the MD-11 fleet is being retired, so I am wondering if these covers are related to that process.
Are they typically added specifically for long-term storage or retirement preparation, or were they already in place from earlier storage cycles before the retirement decision was made?
I am trying to understand what operational purpose these covers serve in this context.
